How it Works:  Set-Up, Operation, Filtration Efficiency.

Power Requirements.

The H²0 Slurry Press will operate from any compressor.  However, a 8 CFM compressor is recommended

Once properly tuned (operating) to your filtration requirements and processing times, the H²0 Slurry Press may be left to operate unattended.

For crystal clear water output, efficiency of operation, and fast processing times, reference the following compressor settings:

- 80 psi:  Fast processing times, produces beautiful, dry, solid cakes, crystal clear water
- 40 psi:  Medium processing times, produces sloppy cakes but crystal clear water

Note:  The lower the psi settings (or using a compressor less at than 8 CFM) the slower your processing times and the sloppier the cakes (water clarity will still clear).  When the filter chambers are full and when operating from a lower psi setting, it is suggested to increase the psi (when using an 8 CFM compressor) to 80 psi.  This will remove the excess water in the filter chambers and your caked plates will be dry and solid.

Which Model to Purchase?  Consider the following:

How many gallons of slurry do you wish to process per hour / per day?

What would a consistent number of gallons be throughout the day? Does the volume vary? Define hours in a day.

Particle size of the solid? Density, thickness or volume of sediment in the slurry

Ratio of sediment to water (i.e. 1 cup or 10 gallons of sediment to 55 gallons of water)

Helpful Benchmark:
- 55 gallon drum of concrete slurry will typically hold between 1 and 2 cubic feet of compacted solid
- See below:  Pricing / Specifications ("Volume of Compacted Solids - Cubic Feet), for each H²O Slurry Press

Start-Up Operation: Pre-Coat Step.

Each of the filter chambers includes a filter media cloth, secured in place with a gasket.  The expected life of the filter cloths is 10 to 15 yrs.

On your initial start-up, pre-coating the filter cloths will be your first step.

Filter Cloth Filtration Efficiency Rating: 5 microns (.005 millimeters).
By Pre-coating the Filter Cloths, efficiency rating increases to 1 to .6 microns (.100 to .0006 millimeters).

Two (2) Methods are used to Pre-Coat the Filter Cloths:

LOAD METHOD - Using your own sediment.  Start the H²0 Slurry Press at the slowest speed possible (1 - 10 psi).  Depending on the sediment size and volume in your slurry, pre-coating times will vary (2 to 40 minutes).

MIX METHOD - Mix 20 lbs. of diatomaceous earth (DE) with 10 gallons of water.  Pump this milkshake mixture through the filter chambers to instantly pre-coat the filter cloths. You can then being the immediate extraction and processing of slurry through the H²0 Slurry Press at its optimal operating speed of 80 psi.

Once the filter cloths are properly coated (as determined by the purity of the water being discharged), you can increase the psi into the Slurry Press.   If the water being discharge begins to look unacceptable (cloudy), simply reduce the psi to the pump.  This will slow down the intake of slurry going into the H²0 Slurry Press as it continues to pre-coat the filter cloths.  Additionally, if speed isn't too important you can leave the machine operating slowly . . .

The Pre-Coat Step of "Going slow and long enough" is only for 1st filling of the H²0 Slurry Press.  After the release of your first cakes, you'll will still start the H²0 Slurry Press slowly (10 psi), but only for a few minutes as the filter cloths are already coated.  As you observe the clarity of the water being discharged, you may gradually increase the psi to the machine's optimal operating setting of 80 psi.

Filling the Filter Chambers - Emptying the Filter Chambers - Dropping the Caked Plates.

Each H²0 Slurry Press is equipped with a powerful 3/4" diaphragm pump - completely adjustable to a wide range of pumping speeds, from 0 to 30 gallons per minute or 0 to 100 psi, depending on your air supply.  As the filter chambers fill, pressure gradually increases as the solids are compressed within each filter chamber.

The filter chambers are securely held in place within the heavy framework of the H²0 Slurry Press and are pressed together with 5000 lbs. of force from the hydraulic hand pump.  As the filter chambers continue to fill and the pressure on them continues to increases (the purity of the liquid being discharged will increase, as the solids increase in the filter chambers.)

When the filter chambers are full (the liquid being discharged will cease to flow), operator intervention is required (See pictures below):

  • Reduce the air pressure from the compressor from 80 to 20 psi
  • Open the Air Blow Down valve on the H²0 Press, to distribute the 20 psi of air over and through the filter chambers
  • This feature will dry any excess water in the filter chambers, helping to ensure that the cakes being discharged are solid.
  • This Air Blow Down step is optional . . . typically lasting between 2 to 5 minutes
  • Reduce the air pressure from the compressor to zero (0)
  • Open the bleed value on the hydraulic hand pump to relieve its pressure on the iron compression plate, tilt the pump backwards (it is on a hinge)
  • Re-tract the iron compression plate (it is on rollers)
  • Using the side handles on the HD filter chambers, separate each one by pulling backwards.
  • As each plate is separated, the caked plates are released and dropped into the collection trays or wheelbarrel.
  • Scrape off any sludge from the filter cloth that did not fall into the collection trays using the plastic scraper (provided)
  • Close the H²0 Slurry Press by sliding the filter chambers together towards the pump
  • Slide the iron compression plate against the filter chambers
  • Position and pump the hydraulic hand pump to 5000 psi - securing the filter chambers in place, ready for re-filling.
  • Turn-on the air pressure to 10 psi to re-start the extracting and separation process . . . gradually increasing to 80 psi.

Additional Filtration Efficiency of the H²0 Slurry Press.  As the solids accumulate and are compressed in the filter collection chambers, the purity of the water being discharged also increases . . . The overall function, HD design, construction and used of quality components (along with using a minimal of 8 CFM of air - HD Air Compressor is highly recommended), ensures the efficient operation of each H²0 Slurry Press.

HANDLING the DISCHARGE of CLEAN WATER.
You can choose to reuse the water being discharged by discharging it to a container and reusing it for your process.  The water is not potable and cannot be consumed by humans.  Or, you may choose to discharge the water to a drain.  Note:  It is the user's responsibility to ensure that the water being drained meets all requirements to send to drain.  This typically involves using a pH Test Kit, one is included with each H
²0 Slurry Press.

END of DAY CLEANING.
At the end of each day of use it is important to flush out any slurry from the system.  This includes flushing the air pump and the filtration plates as well as any hoses.  This can be done by directing the clean water discharge hose from the system and running its clean water right through the H
²0 Slurry Press.
